Every year, as we approach the finish line, I always notice the same thing.

The things I did a lot this year, I’ve gotten much better at. But the things I didn’t do much, I haven’t gotten better at.

It reminds me of this simple model from a book called Atomic Habits. It takes the mathematical principal of compounding and uses it to elucidate the way small regular improvements grow into massive gains over time.

I’m a sucker for a good mental model. And Atomic Habits has quite a few. I found it more broadly useful than a typical productivity book. It helped me understand the way habits form and how they drive people’s behaviour. Which made me a better coach for my team and a better product designer for my users.

Definitely worth a read.
